MAKING AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES SAFER WITH TELEOPERATION

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were 37,133 people killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes on U.S. roadways during 2017. Driver-assistance technologies such as backup cameras, heads-up displays, emergency braking, collision- and lane-departure warnings, blind-spot detection, traffic-jam assist and others are helping to prevent accidents and injuries on today’s roadways—but the trend is stable, at best. We believe that self-driving cars can move the needle in the right direction relative to safety, and experts agree.

But at a time when vehicle manufacturers are feeling the pressure to accelerate their autonomous vehicle deployments to save lives, we need solutions that can help get these vehicles to production faster. That’s where Designated Driver comes in.

Safety in our DNA
Designated Driver was built from the very beginning with functional safety as a primary focus. Our goal is to accelerate the move to full autonomy through safe, secure teleoperation solutions that can be easily integrated with existing autonomous systems.

The ISO 26262 safety standards have been embedded into our product development process from day one. They’re not an afterthought. Our goal is to have 100 percent of our engineers certified as Functional Safety Professionals and help our customers adopt the same standards.

In compliance with ISO 26262, all of our processes are designed and implemented to ensure that our customers, including R&D teams within automotive companies, device manufacturers and others, can be confident that our technology platform and certified remote operators will enhance their autonomous offerings and provide unparalleled support.

We’ve got your back
Our technology offers a highly integrated—and therefore seamlessly operating—safety experience for the vehicle and any passengers using features including full remote control through ASIL-certified steering, braking, accelerator controls and all other vehicle controls and indicators such as lights, horn, locks, windows. In addition we provide bidirectional audio/visual communications (read more about our technology) so that passengers have a comfortable human interaction. A remote driver can take over at any time to ensure any vehicle and its passengers or cargo safely reach their destination—in any situation.
